The boy says it looks like I have right sided facial paralysis (hint: lack of facial expressions on the right). But in reality, it's my successful attempt at making a goofy face.

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." - Lao Tzu

I spent my whole last week in an anatomy lab and didn't have an opportunity to dress up. Not being able to dress up = not so happy me. So even though I was trapped (and will be, until I take my exam on Friday afternoon) in my apartment whole day today, I had to dress up to cheer myself up!

"My weaknesses have always been food and men - in that order." - Dolly Parton

Not men, just one man: My Boy! And sometimes, only sometimes, the order changes as well. :p
The Boy and I needed an escape from the academic setting, so we headed toward the city for a change of scene. We decided to check out the Chicago Underground Comedy group at the Beat Kitchen: 5 comedians for 5 dollars! It just can't get better than that. Each one of them were unique in their style and content. One of them was very well versed in politics, who of course was the Boy's favorite.
While yelpin' places to eat nearby, we came across 90 Miles Cuban Cafe. It had raving reviews, so we had to check it out. Food was delicious, but it was the interior (see it for yourself down below...) of the cafe that I couldn't get enough of. Alright, you got me, I couldn't get enough of the food either, so I will be heading back there as soon as I get some time!
The cafe was very cozy with cutouts from vintage newspapers on every wall, so I had to take some pictures ...

Why doesn't anyone write songs like these anymore?
I asked the Boy if he would, and he gave me "sure honey" face ... and we all know what that means. :p

"I base most of my fashion taste on what doesn't itch."- Gilda Radner

You heard that right!
I base my fashion on what does not itch, hurt, stop me from breathing ... you get the idea?
Not the one to deal with the breakin' in period.

"What a strange power there is in clothing."- Isaac Bashevis Singer

OTD: Romper and pearls.

Floral Chiffon Romper: local boutique, Blazer: H&M,
Pearls: Target, Heals: Famous Footwear

I am in love with this romper! It is so light (like a petal ... ) and soft that it has become one of the precious items in my wardrobe. Or may be cause I feel like a princess in it ... hence the pearls

The boy seems to have difficulty understanding "wait, let me button up my blazer"! :p

I browsed through various websites and used different search boxes to find another similar romper, but had no success. However, I did find some other styles that I fancy!

Can you tell I adore BCBG Max Azria?!

I wear my square scarf as a top!

Yes you heard that right ... I don't own enough tops, at least that's my thought every single morning. For some reason my eyes do not communicate well enough with my brain to register a full suitcase worth of tops in my closet. :p

Due to apparent lack of wearable tops, I decided to wear my thrifted square scarf as a top and loved the look of it! You ask how does that work?

Well, you take a sqaure scarf, fold it in half to make a triangle shape, place the folded scarf around your bust and tie the ends into a knot at your back ... as simple as that! Best thing about this top is that when you get bored of it, you can untie the knot and wear it as a scarf. :)

Vintage Square Scarf ($4.00): local antique market
Vintage Goldtone Bracelet ($3.50): local antique market
Vintage Fake Ring ($2.00): local antique market
Nine West Skirt Suit ($50.00): old from local Burlington factory ... ah-mazing deal!
Heals ($?): old from famous footwear

Cheers to my second baby step in the world of bloggers ... linking to Shana's "Thrifters Anonymous"!

No one, but you, can stop yourself from being inspired.

Even though I don't shop regularly at Anthropologie, mostly because I can't afford it, I still like to browse through their catalog for some inspiration. Mind you, I do love their clothes and cherish every single piece I have gotten from there in the past ... gotta thank the "God of sale". :p

Here are some of my favorites from their July 12' catalog...

It won't come as a surprise to you that I love love love anything and everything with polka dots, I mean who doesn't? However, this time it wasn't this cobalt polka dotted dress (which I do love) that stopped me from turning the page, but the addition of the bib necklace to the outfit. I think it is the bib necklace that gives this outfit that extra oomph ... you know the one that is destined to turn heads.

Lace dress, beaded necklace, and hair in a bun ... a perfect date night outfit, depending on the venue of course. If not to a date, I for sure would wear this to a friend's wedding ... it is not everyday one gets an opportunity to dress up in all lace and beads.
Federico Vinciolo, sixteenth century lace maker, once said ...
"lace- the invention of a goddess and the occupation of a queen"
I gotta say, I couldn't agree with him more.

This is a perfect example of something I would wear on those shopping or walking-around-the-city days ...  effortless, yet put-together. I do not own a pair of distressed jeans, but found myself falling really hard for these Stevie jeans. Only if they didn't cost $235 ... only if the "God of sale" could listen to my silent prayers. :p

 Until next time...
